49ers cut Isaiah Oliver, a veteran cornerback.
Isaiah Oliver, a seasoned cornerback, has been released by the San Francisco 49ers. Early in the 2023 season, he had a big defensive snap count, but in the second half of the schedule, he played less and less.
Oliver was mostly used on special teams during the 49ers’ three playoff games, playing no defensive snaps at all. He was only with San Francisco for one season.
According to OverTheCap.com, the move creates $1.46 million in dead money while saving the 49ers $2.4 million in salary cap space.
The following summary was given by 49ers Communications.
On March 15, 2023, Oliver (6-0, 202) inked a contract to play for the 49ers. He had 17 appearances (six starts) and finished with 58 tackles, two passes defensed, one interception, and one fumble recovery in 2023. In all three postseason games, he also made an appearance.
Oliver, a 26-year-old native of Phoenix, Arizona, spent three years (2015–17) as a student at the University of Colorado, where he made 36 appearances (25 starts), totaling 82 tackles, 32 passes defensed, and three interceptions. Oliver was named to the 2017 Colorado First-Team All-Pac-12 team as a junior.
