After the Lions tendered Wright a one-year, non-guaranteed $2.985 million contract ahead of free agency, the 49ers signed him to an offer sheet, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Friday. Wright may have pursued other bids because of the tender. The specifics of his contract with the 49ers are not yet available.
Wright was undrafted, thus the Lions will lose him without receiving any money if they decide not to match the 49ers’ contract.
As a UDFA out of Notre Dame, Wright, 25, signed a contract with Detroit in 2021. After the Lions traded T.J. Hockenson midseason in 2022, he became an indispensable part of the team’s offensive and continued to be the No. 2 heading into this season. Despite missing three games due to a hip ailment, he participated in 36% of the offensive snaps this season. In three seasons in Detroit, he has amassed 424 yards and seven touchdowns.
The second tight end spot will be clearly needed going into the NFL Draft in April if Wright does decide to leave for San Francisco, who defeated the Lions in the NFC Championship. Wright’s arm injury sustained during the NFC divisional round victory over Tampa Bay prevented him from playing in Detroit’s last playoff match.

Florida’s OrlandoTeam president Rod Wood of the Detroit Lions has announced that the team will debut its new uniforms prior to the NFL draft next month. Other than that, the revised style was purposefully kept simple.
According to Wood, “I think everyone will be excited about it.” “Not to give too much away, but I’m pretty pleased with how it came out. Brian Ferrari, the chief communications and brand officer, and Mike Disner, the chief operational officer, truly led the multiyear effort. They collaborated with the league and Nike, and I believe this will thrill the fans greatly.”
When asked what he liked about the uniforms, Wood didn’t seem to be tricked and only said that the alterations to the present style wouldn’t be that big.
“That seems like a good method to get me to talk,” Wood remarked. “They’re not crimson. Not that they are golden and gold. With a little modernization and twist, they are paying tribute to our classic color. We also have a lot more options thanks to it. We’re planning to roll out a few new pant options that match jerseys, giving us more choices for what to wear during the season.”
I also questioned Wood if the William Clay Ford shoulder patch will stay on the team.
“We intend to approach that slightly differently,” he declared. “I won’t provide the specifics just now. That will be respected, but not in the same manner as the current uniforms.”
Many of the team’s players, according to Wood, have seen the new outfits after participating in a picture shoot earlier this month.
According to Wood, “I believe they were all quite enthusiastic about them.” Some of our athletes are quite particular about their uniforms, and they were pleased with what they saw.
Detroit’s uniforms will undergo their first redesign since revealing their current design in 2017. One of those was a gray “Color Rush” alternative. They updated the text and number fonts, did away with black, and changed the color scheme.
Last offseason, the Lions unveiled a blue alternative helmet. It can only be worn with the alternate jersey of the squad, which was the all-gray configuration from the previous season.
