Moving Forward: 49ers roster reload and summary
I usually shake my head in response to the empathetic remarks made by friends and family, such as that there’s always next year or they’ll be back. In actuality, it’s difficult to lose a Super Bowl and bounce back fast.
Since the early 1990s Bills, who put together an unprecedented run of four consecutive Super Bowl failures, no Super Bowl loser has advanced to the big game the following season, with the exception of the Patriots’ three consecutive trips from LII to LIV.
In general, the NFL schedule is cruel, and the disappointment of missing the playoffs can have a lasting effect on entire teams the next year (see: Philadelphia 2023).
But eventually, things go back in order; the mourning process gives way to potential and, with it, hopes for future victories.
In the words of Mike Shanahan, You keep fighting. That’s how life is going. Although it may be difficult to accept, the 49ers have a good chance of winning the Lombardi next February. The faithful’s attention will eventually turn to that as well.
Soundbites explaining away the biggest defeat of the Shanahan era and the vulnerabilities that ultimately led to their downfall will abound during this off-season.
However, it will also be used to plan forward and decide how best to exact revenge on this 2023 team for its mistakes. The way they improve will first depend on how the roster is assembled.
According to OverTheCap, San Francisco’s 2024 deficit is expected to be approximately $3.7 million, with a projected cap of $240–245 million.
Before making the required adjustments in the upcoming months, this is how their system currently looks.
In the modern NFL, having your franchise quarterback under contract for less than $1 million a year is extremely beneficial.
Teams may find it difficult to increase the skill on the squad as a result of the soaring expense of an outstanding signal caller.
Due to Purdy’s rookie deal, San Francisco has a window of opportunity to make another strong push this off-season.
It would be fantastic to see Allen return to the fold in August, as Darnold might find a better opportunity in free agency.
