Report: The Ravens And 49ers on Trade for…

It appears that 49ers have been contacted by teams on the availability of a specific wide receiver—one who isn’t Brandon Aiyuk, at least not yet.

According to Jason La Canfora, the 49ers answered no, at least not right now, to the Baltimore Ravens’ latest request to trade for Deebo Samuel over the phone. An intriguing response.

It’s understandable why the 49ers would prefer not to deal Samuel at this time. If he were traded now, there would be more than $21 million in dead cap and fewer than $7 million in salary cap room. Furthermore, it’s unknown what kind of draft pick the 49ers would receive in exchange for Samuel and his bloated contract, or if that pick would be preferable to Samuel when the team tries to win another Super Bowl the following season. So, there are three arguments against trading Samuel right now.

However, the 49ers would avoid paying the cap by more than $22 million if they traded Samuel after June 1. Naturally, at that point they couldn’t trade him for a 2024 draft pick, but they could deal him for a player—possibly at a different position. a player on the offensive line. a close finish. A defensive back. After all, the 49ers pass more passes than any other team in the league, so do they really need two ridiculously expensive wide receivers once Brandon Aiyuk’s contract is extended?

Calvin Ridley Signs With Titans After Leaving Jaguars

The AFC South foe just got stronger, and the Jacksonville Jaguars just took a serious loss.

About an hour after the new league year started on Wednesday, star wide receiver Calvin Ridley chose to sign with the Tennessee Titans rather than the Jaguars.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Ridley agreed to a $92 million, four-year contract that included $50 million in guarantees. With the contract, Ridley is now the wide receiver ranked ninth in terms of average annual value and tenth in terms of total guaranteed money.

Because of the terms of their deal with the Atlanta Falcons, the Jaguars were never required to sign Ridley before the league season began, which allowed teams like the Titans and New England Patriots to talk to Ridley.

“Well, whether it’s a second or third round, we’re not really worried with that.” We will just work with the player to reach a consensus, regardless of whether the pay changes or not. It will stay the same. Trent Baalke, general manager of the Jaguars, stated at the NFL Scouting Combine last month, “We’re more focused on the individual.”

Yes, we will carry on having discussions about all of it. This offseason, we have a ton of work to accomplish. Calvin [Ridley] and I met at my office the other day. Calvin and I had a terrific conversation; we both know exactly where we are and where I am. As the weeks pass, we will merely keep working with each of these stakeholders in an effort to reach a compromise or a settlement.

In 2023, Ridley caught 76 catches for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns, marking his second career 1,000-yard season. Despite missing the majority of the 2021 season and serving a season-long ban in 2022, he also managed to stay fit for the full season, starting all 17 games.

In the end, Ridley’s season was acquired by the Jaguars in exchange for a fifth-round and a third-round selection. With Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, Zay Jones, Devin Duvernay, Parker Washington, Tim Jones, and Elijah Cooks in the wide receiver room, they will now advance.
