Jordan Mason, a running back for the San Francisco 49ers, was hurt during the Seattle Seahawks game on Thursday night, but it doesn’t seem like he will miss a lot of time.
Mason had a fantastic start in the 49ers’ 36-24 victory over the Seahawks. Mason left the game with a shoulder injury in the first half after rushing for 65 yards on eight carries. After making a comeback at the beginning of the second half, he ran for eight yards on the Niners’ opening offensive play, but he left the game permanently after that.
Mason sustained a sprained AC joint, said Adam Schefter of ESPN. The third-year back’s injury is not thought to be serious, but additional testing will be necessary to ascertain its full extent.
As a stand-in for the injured Christian McCaffrey for the 49ers this season, Mason has excelled. With 609 running yards through six games, Mason leads the NFL. In addition, he has contributed 75 receiving yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Mason will have an advantage as San Francisco plays on Thursday night, giving him a couple more days to heal before the club plays the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 on October 20.
The stadium fell silent as the player lay on the field, visibly in pain. Teammates gathered around, some kneeling in concern, while the medical staff rushed to his aid. After a few tense minutes, he was helped onto a cart and taken off the field for further evaluation. His absence was immediately felt, as the 49ers struggled to maintain their offensive momentum for the remainder of the game.
Fans on social media quickly expressed their heartbreak, with many offering their prayers and well-wishes. “This is just awful to see. He’s such a vital part of our team,” wrote one fan on X (formerly Twitter). Another echoed the sentiment: “Praying for a speedy recovery, we need you out there!”
