On Friday, Alabama Crimson Tide head football coach Kyle DeBoer officially announced the hiring of Courtney Morgan as general manager.
Morgan was the coach’s first job at Alabama. Prior to this, he served as DeBoer’s director of player personnel and general manager at Washington for the previous two seasons.
“Courtney plays a crucial role in our program,” stated DeBoer. “He is a vital component of our efforts to find and assess talent at the high school level and in the transfer portal.
He has excellent relationships throughout the nation. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome Courtney to Tuscaloosa since he is a key component of our goals at Alabama.
In addition to supervising and managing the day-to-day activities of the recruiting and personnel departments, Morgan will be responsible for managing the Crimson Tide’s roster.
Along with assisting with transfer portal evaluations, he will also assist with head coach film evaluations and prospect communication. Morgan is also in charge of overseeing Alabama football’s internal brand management.
Morgan remarked, “I am excited to uphold the standard that Alabama football has created, and I adore working with Coach DeBoer.”
“We all share the same objective as a staff, and we have faith in Coach DeBoer’s methodology for success. Success is mostly attributed to hard work and trust, and I’m always prepared for work and have great faith in Coach DeBoer’s program-building methodology.
Morgan assisted in bringing in important players for the UW teams in 2022 and 2023 via the transfer site, helping Washington secure a top-30 recruiting class in 2023.
Morgan played offensive guard for the Michigan Wolverines from 1999 to 2003, spending the 2021 season there and assisting the club in earning a spot in the 2021 College Football Playoffs.
In 2019, he worked for DeBoer at San Jose State after having previously served in the same role at Fresno State. He also served as UCLA’s director of player development in 2013 and 2014 before taking a few years off to work in the sports industry before going back to play college football.
According to 247Sports, he is Fresno State’s top recruiter in the Mountain West Conference for the 2021 cycle.
Morgan has an outstanding and varied background in athletics. Following his time at UCLA, Morgan co-founded Pure Influence Group, a platform that links businesses, artists, and professional athletes with opportunities to boost income, community impact, and brand exposure.
For two years before founding his business, Morgan oversaw contract negotiations, marketing, public relations, endorsements, social media consulting, brand planning, charity, and management as Director of Client Development at Vanguard Sports Group.
Morgan played in 28 games and started 11 of them during his three seasons as a letterman at Michigan. In 2000 and 2003, he was a member of two Big Ten championship teams and played all five offensive line positions. In 2003, Morgan graduated from Michigan with a degree in communications and sports management.
The suggested terms and conditions of this proposed appointment have been communicated to the relevant members of the Board of Trustees; nonetheless, the Board of Trustees still has the authority to approve the financial terms.
