In an on-court interview, Djokovic, who won the gold medal without dropping a set, talked candidly about how the victory felt.
All of the emotions I’m experiencing right now are overwhelming. experiencing a range of feelings. Overly arrogant. Overly joyful. “I’m excited about the prospect of winning a gold medal for my nation for the first time in my career,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion exclaimed.
Claiming to have ‘probably’ won everything in his solo career, he said it is ‘perhaps the biggest success’ he has ever had.
In response to a question about whether the Olympic gold medal was the “missing puzzle” in his career, Djokovic said that it was. He acknowledged that he might be “self-critical” at times.
“Because I have a tendency to be quite judgemental of myself. I’m not sure. That’s one of the main mental struggles I constantly have with myself. that both on and off the court, I feel like I haven’t accomplished enough or been enough in my life.”
He said that he was happy to finish all the records and that he now felt like he had done “enough.”
It’s a significant lesson for me, then. I am incredibly appreciative of the opportunity to bring home a historic gold medal for my nation. to finish the slam dunk. to finish compiling every record.
