Tyrone Mings of ASTON VILLA was carried out on a stretcher with his leg in a brace at St James’ Park, raising concerns.
The defender seemed to fall awkwardly during a 50-50 contest for the ball with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
As he exited the Premier League match, he held his head in his hands and was clearly distressed.
The damage appeared to be to the ankle or knee.
Pat Nevin, a former Chelsea and Everton player, told BBC Radio 5Live: “When a player goes down and doesn’t move, there’s definitely damage.”
“He has his hands on his face, which could be due to injury or the fact that it is the beginning of the season.Moussa Diaby, also making his debut, drew Villa level at 1-1 before the hosts reclaimed the lead.
And that’s how it stayed until halftime in a tense match in the Northeast.
