Among the elite group of stars of the 2000s is Atlanta Braves player Matt Olson.
Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves played in his 492nd consecutive game on Wednesday night as the Braves defeated the Boston Red Sox.
The 30-year-old has not sat since the 2021 season and has the longest active streak of consecutive games in the league.
Olson has only missed six games in the last four seasons after playing in all 60 games of the 2020 COVID season, 156 games in 2021, and all games thereafter.
Look, 492 games isn’t quite as spectacular as Cal Ripken’s 2,632 games in a row, but it’s still a lot for the current game.
Actually, Olson’s current streak of consecutive games played is second only to that of a select few players from the 2000s.
This is extremely noteworthy for Olson for a number of reasons: It first has to be in good health. You have to be in excellent health to play that many games.
It requires some luck, of course, but it also requires commitment to your body’s preparation and maintenance.
Furthermore, it’s remarkable that Olson was able to withstand opponents’ exclusive attention on platoon advantages and guy load management in Oakland and Atlanta, since that’s how teams play today.
Olson, who led the Major Leagues in home runs last season with 54, is off to a poor start this year, hitting just.200 with three home runs and sixteen RBIs.
