Hugh Freeze, the head coach of the Auburn Tigers, sacked one of his top players
A convoluted scenario culminates in five teams sharing the SEC championship. Auburn must triumph in both of its games this week to fulfill its obligation. The first game is on Tuesday night at Missouri, a team that is without a win but still competitive in the SEC.
Pearl remarked, Missouri has played everybody tough. They haven’t given up or given in in the slightest. As hard as anyone in the league, they play.
Pearl praised senior Lior Berman, who will have knee surgery after rupturing his ACL while assisting Auburn in defeating Mississippi State on Saturday at Neville Arena, as he started his interview with reporters on Monday.
Over the past five years, he has had a significant impact on the program both on and off the court, according to Pearl. He had positioned himself well within the usual rotation.
Senior Chris Moore will play more at small forward behind Chad Baker-Mazara now that Berman is gone for the season.
Pearl stated, Chris provides a strong voice and leadership to our team. He is the most adept communicator on the defensive. Chris is always a superior player for us defensively.
The game between Auburn (22-7, 11-5) and Missouri (8-21, 0-16) begins on SEC Network on Tuesday at 8 p.m. CT at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. On the Auburn Sports Network, fans can follow the action with Andy Burcham and Randall Dickey.
Pearl remarked, It’s Senior Night at Missouri. I can’t even begin to imagine the level of passion and intensity with which those players will compete to win. But it’s also really important to us. We would be pushed back if we lost to a team whose math is so flawed.
Johni Broome, a candidate for this season’s National Player of the Year, scored 17 points against Mississippi State on Saturday and has now scored in double figures in 20 straight games.
With 8.55 rebounds per game and 16.34 points per game, Broome is ninth in the SEC in scoring. He is the only player in the league with a scoring and rebounding average of at least 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, as well as the only one who is ranked in the top 10 in the SEC. His field goal percentage of 55.1 puts him in second place in the SEC.
In the all-time series between Auburn and Missouri, Auburn is ahead 7-6 and has won three of the last four meetings. Auburn is down 3–4 in Columbia, Missouri, away from home.
With a victory on Tuesday, the Tigers will tie for the fifth-most SEC victories in program history dating back to 1949–50 with their 12th victory in SEC play.
Auburn would finish 5-4 in SEC road games this season with a victory against Mizzou, which would be the third time in the previous seven seasons that the Tigers have had a winning SEC road record.
Charlton C.Y. is the associate head coach for Missouri. Young served as Auburn’s assistant coach twice (1996–1997 and 2000–2004).
