Houston Astros’ Manager Says New Addition Can Make Opening Day Roster

Joe Espada stated that he would be considered for the Houston Astros if he had a strong season. This means there could be another new face joining the team.

With its key players back in the mix for the 2017 season, the Houston Astros core group remains the same, but they’ll have some new faces in their lineup, bullpen, and manager.

The front office may have been a formidable team even if they didn’t do anything this winter.

That’s how things appeared until Josh Hader was given a huge contract.

Then, the Astros were able to add another depth element to their roster by trading for Trey Cabbage, a talented minor league player.

The 26-year-old sliced over 107 games at the Triple-A level in 2023.With 30 home runs, 58 extra-base hits, and 89 RBI in the Los Angeles Angels organization, his stats are 306/.379/.596.

He played in 22 games in the Major Leagues, so he also earned some experience there

Cabbage has a promising future, which may materialize as soon as this season.

“We like what we’ve seen, what we’ve heard from industry insiders, and what he’s capable of.” According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, new manager Joe Espada stated, “I think he’s got a decent opportunity at making the club if he goes and demonstrates he can hit for power and cut down on swing and miss.”

If so, the infielder will have some opposition to overcome.

The two players most likely to make the roster are Jon Singleton and Corey Julks, who were both with Houston during the previous campaign. Grae Kessinger and Joey Loperfido are among the others who will enter the race.

To be included on the Opening Day roster, Cabbage will have to demonstrate all of his strength and speed-related talents.

Espada seems to have high expectations for their new arrival, saying that a few small tweaks might elevate his offensive ability.

The utilityman still has some possibilities if he can’t break out of camp with a position.

In any case, it appears like the Astros will use Cabbage in 2024 in the hopes that he can contribute significantly to their championship-caliber team as another key player.
