Pittsburgh — Jakob Junis of the Milwaukee Brewers was taken away in an ambulance after being struck in the neck by a line drive during batting practice in Pittsburgh on Monday.
The right-hander was standing in the outfield when he was smacked by a hard-hit ball from Pirates infielder Alika Williams. Junis lay down for around 20 minutes while being treated by medical personnel. He remained conscious while being carried into an ambulance and transported from PNC Park.
According to a joint statement, Junis was “alert, aware, and receptive” when taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Junis, 31, was placed on the 15-day injury list on April 6 due to a shoulder impingement. He has made one start this season, giving one run and three hits over four innings against the Minnesota Twins on April 2.
Junis is 38-45 with a 4.63 ERA in eight seasons with the Royals, San Francisco, and Milwaukee after making his major league debut with Kansas City on April 12, 2017.
Earlier Monday, the Brewers placed left-handed pitcher Wade Miley on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow discomfort. He joins left-handed pitcher DL Hall, who was placed on the injured list on Sunday due to a left knee sprain.
