Zach Moss, a former Colts running back who signed a two-year contract, was introduced by the Bengals on Thursday.
He’s a downhill runner eager to seize every opportunity Cincinnati presents.
When asked why he picked the Bengals, Moss informed the reporters, What type of role the running backs have had here in years past and things like that.
The type of attack they employ. The two work well together; it’s just my kind of play.
They handle a lot of the gun people and other such tasks, in addition to the runs that I enjoy doing. Thus, it was simply a happy marriage. It was logical. Just thrilled to be included at last.
In the Colts system, Moss demonstrated a semi-explosive, efficient style of play that led to a career-high 43 first-down rushes.
With Chase Brown, he is now part of an attack that should accommodate his 180–200 carry workload, which was effective for him in 2023.
Out of 35 eligible backs, he came in 15th place with a breakaway rate of 25.5% and 23rd place with yards after contact per attempt (2.79 YPC). Last season, Joe Mixon placed 30th and 32nd in those metrics.
Regarding his running technique, Moss declared, “I’m certainly downhill.I enjoy running with just one cut. That, in my opinion, perfectly captures the essence of it.
You know, Marshawn Lynch and Arian Foster were my favorite runners when I was a kid. Guys who lose interest after just one cut, then their physical game, all the chatting, and so on.
I try to impact the game physically and that’s kind of where I find myself—going downhill, making guys miss, and sometimes teams feed from stuff like that.” That’s what I’m searching for, then.
