Game 2 of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Eastern Conference semifinal series is now tied at one game apiece. The Cavaliers outscored the Boston Celtics by 12 points in each of the third and fourth quarters en route to a commanding 118-94 victory.

Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers starters with 29 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and a plus-38 rating. The other four players also scored in double figures. With 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks, Evan Mobley controlled the paint. The Cavaliers hit 54.7 percent from the field, with Caris LeVert contributing 21 points off the bench.

 

In addition, Cleveland made 13 of 28 three-pointers vs Boston’s 8 of 35 attempts from beyond the arc. Cleveland also outrebounded Boston 44 to 31.

Along with his seven rebounds and six assists, Jayson Tatum led Boston with twenty-five points. For many of his teammates, though, the offensive night was difficult. Despite missing all six of his three-point attempts, Jaylen Brown scored 19 points. In his 20 minutes off the bench, Peyton Pritchard scored 13 points, but no other Celtic player scored more than 11.

At the break, the two teams were level at 54. However, Mitchell heated up, and Boston’s performance in the fourth quarter dropped to just 16.

A team that finished with the NBA’s best record (64-18), defeated the Miami Heat 4-1 in the opening round, and then thrashed the Cavaliers 120-95 in Game 1 of this series, put on a stunning display. Boston was 40-5 at home overall, including in the playoffs, going into this match. They also faced a Cavaliers squad that is still without starting center Jarrett Allen due to a bruised ribcage.
