Is there a better player than Payton Pritchard that the Boston Celtics can acquire?
Before the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline, do the Boston Celtics need to find a replacement for reserve guard Payton Pritchard? Ethan Fuller of The Boston Globe joined cohost Evan Valenti on the most recent episode of the CLNS Media podcast Celtics Beat. The two talked about whether Payton Pritchard needs to be upgraded by the Celtics.
They pointed out that it probably won’t matter because only six or seven players will receive meaningful minutes regardless of the Celtics’ comparatively short playoff rotation.
The two also discussed Pritchard’s lack of physical strength—he is only 6-foot-1—and his poor defensive play, but Pritchard did express the opinion that this is one of his greatest seasons to date.
They ultimately believed that any improvement would be slight, so the Celtics probably wouldn’t need to deal with it, even though it would be intriguing to have a player like Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso.
