In her preseason sellout WNBA debut, Caitlin Clark excels.
During their WNBA basketball game in Arlington, Texas, on Friday, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) drives past Dallas Wings forward Natasha Howard (6).
On Friday night, Caitlin Clark made her WNBA debut with the Indiana Fever, and her impact didn’t seem to be abating.
Excited spectators lined up outside College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, for the preseason game against the Dallas Wings, another sellout, to watch the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer play in her first professional game.
My main objectives going into the game tonight were to be aggressive, have fun, and just be myself. I thought that’s what I did, Clark stated on Friday at a news conference following the game.
When Caitlin Clark and Fever frenzy arrived on the WNBA scene, ticket sales and jersey sales increased.
Though it was a losing game, Clark’s performance on the court on Friday was impressive, reminiscent of her time at the University of Iowa. She scored 21 points with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Wings prevailed 79–76.
Christie Sides, the head coach of the Fever, praised Clark’s performance but pointed out that the team as a whole, including the rookie star, was still getting used to their new surroundings.
At the news conference on Friday, Sides stated, “We’re still getting to know each other.”
Sides saw that Clark seemed worn out during the first quarter. In the future, the head coach hopes Clark will rely on her colleagues.
The first round of the WNBA draft sees the selection of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
When asked what the main distinction was between collegiate and professional basketball, Clark responded.
No one calls it, even yet everyone is pretty physical. She said, “I think that’s the important thing.”
On May 14, Clark will play in his first regular-season game against the Connecticut Sun.
For someone who has always wanted to play in the WNBA, Clark said, it’s a significant accomplishment.
