What Skyy Clark and Kenny Payne Said Following Louisville’s 94-85 Loss Against NC State.
Read what Cardinals head coach and guard Skyy Clark had to say following their ACC Tournament defeat at the hands of the Wolfpack:
The 2023–24 season of the Louisville men’s basketball team is now over. In the opening round of the ACC Tournament, the Cardinals’ second campaign under head coach Kenny Payne ended in a 94–85 loss to NC State.
Following the defeat, Payne and guard Skyy Clark had the following to say:
Guard Skyy Clark and Head Coach Kenny Payne KENNY PAYNE: After the game, I told my guys that I was proud of them. I’m pleased with how they overcame hardship.
They battled for the entire year, and for that I am proud. I’m proud of the fact that they persevered in the face of hardship when it would have been easy to give up.
They may have said, “I quit,” at times. They didn’t give up. It’s challenging to achieve that.
Giving up on something is a natural reaction when things don’t go your way. It wasn’t what they did.
When you’re losing most of your games and don’t feel like training, it’s natural to give up and stop believing. It wasn’t what they did.
I’m happy with that, therefore. We were a pretty good team, and I’m proud of it.
They made 40 free throws in this game, while we only made 11. We shot 55% from the field, 55% from three, and 100% from the free-throw line in this game. We performed well enough to win the match.
Once more, I’m proud of my guys and the way they battled to win, even though they were just a hair shy. All of us did.
Concerns? Q.
Now that the season is over, Kenny, have you heard anything regarding your future with the team as head coach?
No, I haven’t, Kenny Payne said. Q. Kenny, what advancements do you think this season’s show made? KENNY PAYNE: Excellent query. This guy seated over here to my left is one of the causes.
I didn’t have guys like him when I came in. A man of incredible talent, a man of unwavering dedication, and a man of his caliber.
Character is the foundation upon which a program is constructed.
You need young men who don’t know everything; men who are prepared to work hard, learn new things, and put in the necessary effort.
He came in and worked diligently every day, to the point where at times his extremely intense work became a bit much.
