TENNIS NEWS

Though Carlos Alcaraz is expected to rule tennis in the coming years, how much do you know about his parents, Virginia Garfia Escandon and Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez?

Alcaraz, who made his ATP Tour main draw debut in February 2020 at the age of sixteen, has risen quickly to the top of the men’s tennis world and won his first singles championship the following year.

However, it was the 2022 season that really got people to pay attention to his abilities. He won four wins in the first half of the season, including two ATP Masters 1000 titles, and went on to win his first Grand Slam, the US Open, in September.

He became the first adolescent to be ranked number one in the ATP Rankings and the youngest player to be ranked number one in the world at the end of the year following his performance at Flushing Meadows.

His success has been greatly attributed to the ideals taught in him by his parents during his formative years, even though he possesses some outstanding natural skill.

Several of his Wimbledon 2023 matches have been witnessed by his parents, with his mother in particular being spotted ecstatically enjoying his victory over Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final.

Born in El Palmar, Murcia, Spain on May 5, 2003, rising talent Carlos Alcaraz Garfia was the son of Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez and Virginia Garfia Escandon. He has two younger brothers, Sergio and Jaime, and an older brother, Alvaro.

According to the official ATP Tour website, Carlos Alcaraz Sr., a former professional tennis player, peaked at No. 963 in the rankings in 1990.

Unsurprisingly, Carlos Alcaraz Sr. began working as the head of the tennis academy at the Real Sociedad Club de Campo de Murcia after his own career came to an end. Young Carlos began playing tennis at the same club as soon as he was old enough to grasp a racket.

After he started playing with his father, I was requested to keep an eye on him one day. One of Alcaraz Jr.’s early coaches, Kiko Navarro, told the Guardian in May of this year that the young athlete “was exceptional, at four or five years old.”

I had known he was amazing since I was very little. I won’t claim to have believed he would be the world’s best player, but I was aware that I had a really talented and unique guy on my hands.

Following Alcaraz Jr.’s ascent to prominence, Carlos Alcaraz Sr. has been overseeing the Carlos Alcaraz Tennis Academy by Reina at the Tiro de Pichón for about thirty years, and he has grown to be a major sponsor of the academy.

Virginia Garfia Escandon, mother of Carlos Alcaraz, is who?

Although Virginia Garfia attended her son’s US Open final victory over Casper Ruud and was photographed during his run to the Wimbledon final, she has avoided the spotlight since her son rose to international stardom.

Garfia, who was born in Sevilla, moved to Murcia with her husband Carlos Alcaraz Senior while she was in her 20s.

Carlos Alcaraz Jr. disclosed in a 2022 interview that his parents manage his finances. I don’t ask for permission to buy golf clubs because I enjoy them, but I will buy a good car. I continue to resist it.

“I advise my mother to go out and do those things because my father is tougher than she is. They always warn me to “don’t be late,” even if I don’t really have time. Even if I really try not to wake them up when I go home, they always find me.
