Day 4 of the ATP Buenos Aires: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Camilo Ugo Carabelli predictions
The top two seeds in the ATP IEB+ Argentina Open in Buenos Aires are Cameron Norrie and Carlos Alcaraz. They crossed paths in this event’s final last year, and they hope to do so again.
On Thursday, Alcaraz and Norrie will begin their 2024 campaigns; Alcaraz will face Camilo Ugo Carabelli, while Federico Coria will face Norrie. Who do you anticipate advances to the quarterfinals?
Predictions for Day 4 of ATP Buenos Aires
Five days prior, these two competed in the semifinals of the Cordoba tournament; Luciano Darderi prevailed in that match and went on to win his first ATP Tour championship the following match.
The Italians easily adapted to the sudden change in sea level conditions and destroyed Mariano Navone on Tuesday.
With such a powerful forehand, he was able to continue putting Baez back in Cordoba, preventing him from attacking freely.
He might succeed again if he can maintain hitting these serves at a speed of more than 220 kph and still have energy to spare.
With an 8-2 record so far this season, Andrea Vavassori is having a surreptitious, fantastic start. With six victories and one defeat in qualifying, the Italian must be feeling pretty good about himself right now.
He’s also been holding off his opponents rather handily in Buenos Aires by alternating between slice grinds and net attacks.
Can a player like Laslo Djere fall into this trap? Although Vavassori might be able to draw this out, the Serbian ought to be the rival with more to say on the ground.
Despite a few difficult matches in the early going, Cameron Norrie participated in Buenos Aires last year and lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match. This time, we’ll see how quickly he adjusts, but theoretically, it should be a little bit simpler.
But Federico Coria is no slouch; over the last two weeks, the Argentinean has demonstrated superb play that has significantly improved his ranking position.
He doesn’t seem to be the best opponent for Norrie, as he won’t be able to depend as much on his potent counterpunching.
The reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, finished 25-3 on clay in the previous season. He will settle for nothing less than a title, and for the time being, at least, he faces a formidable but unthreatening opponent.
Just two weeks ago, Ugo Carabelli defeated Hugo Dellien in the qualifying round and salvaged three match points.
He also won a Challenger in Piracicaba. He has now won eight straight matches, but in order to threaten Alcaraz in this match, he would have to put a lot more faith in his forehand.
