Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon believes Chase Elliott is poised for a comeback, citing the strength and competitiveness of his team. Elliott, who drives for Hendrick Motorsports, has recently faced a slump in form, including a disappointing 18th-place finish at Homestead-Miami Raceway last weekend. This contrasts sharply with his teammate Kyle Larson, who clinched the win after overtaking Alex Bowman. Bowman had scraped his car against the wall, allowing Larson to seize the opportunity and race to victory. Bowman ultimately finished second.
Gordon noted that Elliott’s team began the season with strong momentum and confidence, much like Bowman’s No. 48 crew. “You could tell they were ready to compete and had a lot of belief in themselves,” Gordon said. He acknowledged that the recent races have likely been frustrating for the team, but emphasized their depth and resilience.
Despite the current challenges, Gordon pointed out that Elliott’s trust in his team and his positive response to setbacks indicate a strong potential for recovery. “When results don’t meet expectations, you know it’s time to dig in,” Gordon explained. “Chase and crew chief Alan Gustafson set high standards, and while they might be disappointed, they respond well and stay focused.”
As for Bowman, he took full accountability for losing the lead in Miami. According to *Newsweek Sports*, he admitted, “I kind of blew it. I pushed too hard, saw the #5 closing in, and made a few mistakes. One bad hit messed up the feel in the right front, and then I hit the fence pretty hard. That’s on me. Even if Larson would’ve passed me anyway, I made it easier than I should have.” Bowman had led for 43 laps before Larson ultimately passed him.
