Regarding Dax Hill’s future, Bengals safety coach Jordan Kovacs said, I have high expectations for Dax.
Will the Bengals add a veteran to the back end or remain with the young guys? After free agency starts next month, we’ll know the answer to that question, but in response to Dan Hoard’s query about Hill on the Bengals Booth Podcast, Kovacs gave him some praise. Hill is 23 years old.
The most crucial factor in anything, particularly in the National Football League, is experience. He’s been excellent. Kovacs stated that he has the necessary skill set. He is capable of covering, which is difficult to do for security.
He’s had highs and lows. He’s had some excellent plays, and he would undoubtedly be the first to admit that he wishes a few of them could have been replayed, but that’s the life of a rookie safety. He’s simply trying to improve a little bit over the season, even though he’s done a fantastic job. I am excited to work with Dax and have great expectations for him. This year, I anticipate much more progress from him.
Last season, Hill ended with 110 tackles (six for loss), 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, and five quarterback hits. Kovacs thinks that Hill, Battle, and the whole secondary need to communicate.
According to Kovacs, there is always a transition and a learning curve when moving from nickel to safety. You truly become the defense’s quarterback once you’re on the back end of this beast. We need to make significant progress in a number of areas, and communication is one where I know he’s still learning and developing in that regard. As the defense’s quarterback, it is our responsibility to communicate and ensure that everyone is on the same page. I anticipate that he will excel in that regard.
