Despite contract and trade rumors, Chad Johnson believes Tee Higgins and the Bengals will work things out.
The standoff over Tee Higgins’ contract between the Cincinnati Bengals and Higgins is not concerning Chad Johnson.
After speaking with Higgins, the former Bengals player told TMZ he is optimistic the two parties will come to an agreement.
We’re going to figure things out, I believe. We’ll work things out. It’s just business; that’s how it works. But Johnson assured me that he would be fine.
There appears to have been little movement toward a long-term deal since the Bengals placed Higgins under the franchise tag in March.According to Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway, the team’s first offer to Higgins fell short of $20 million annually.
According to the franchise tag, Higgins will earn $21.8 million in 2024. Higgins most likely wants to be the 19th receiver to earn at least $20 million a season, joining the existing 18 recipients who do so.
Even in the absence of a new deal, Higgins stated he does anticipate playing for the Bengals this season.
Last month, Higgins told WLWT, “I definitely anticipate it.” I never thought I would fall in love with Cincinnati, but I’m looking forward to it, you know?
Despite being limited to just 12 games last season due to injury, Higgins set career lows in receiving yards (656), touchdowns (5), and receptions (42).
