Joe Burrow will miss the whole season due to a ruptured ligament, according to Bengals coach Zac Taylor.
Cincinnati faces extreme challenges to make it to the playoffs.
Following Coach Zach Taylor’s statement that Joe Burrow, the Bengals’ standout quarterback, will miss the remainder of the season due to a ligament injury in his right wrist, the team’s season has taken a severe hit.
Burrow’s team lost to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football, and he left the game with a wrist injury. This morning, he had multiple tests, which confirmed the ligament tear and said that his season is over.
For the Bengals, the news arrives at a most inconvenient time. They had won four straight games before suffering two straight losses, dropping their record to 5-5 and severely hurting their prospects of making the playoffs. Given that they play in the AFC North division, where every side has a winning record, this is particularly difficult.
a result of a previous injury?
Some fans on social media resurrected an old tweet from 2017 by Burrow, before he won an NCAA championship and joined the NFL, in which he stated that he was healing from a fractured hand. It appears that years later, this same injury is still bothering him.
The news was initially announced by NFL insider Ian Rapoport via his X account: “Coach Zac Taylor says #Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will miss the whole season due to a ruptured ligament. This morning, he had his MRI. His backup is Jake Browning, who wrapped up yesterday night.”
Burrow sustained the injury in the first half of the Ravens game on Thursday. He walked to the locker room and was eliminated because he was unable to hold the ball properly on the sidelines. Bengals head coach Zach Taylor said during the game that the injury was likely a wrist sprain, but more testing would be needed to determine the full extent of the damage.
The prognosis altered after the MRI results on Friday, and Jake Browning will start at quarterback for the Bengals going forward.
The Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers will square off at home on November 26.
