Coach Zac Taylor reports that Cincinnati Bengals tight end C.J. Uzomah appears to have sprained his MCL.
Cincinnati — There is some positive news for the Bengals about one of their key players.
Coach Zac Taylor said on Monday that C.J. Uzomah’s initial test results regarding his knee injury were “encouraging” following the tight end’s departure from Sunday’s AFC Championship Game victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. According to Taylor, Uzomah’s left knee appears to have had a sprained MCL.
Taylor remarked, “I don’t know much more at this time, but it seems hopeful initially.”
The seventh-year Auburn player went down in the first quarter after leaping to intercept an incomplete ball from quarterback Joe Burrow. Uzomah staggered off the field and was finally wheeled to the locker room in a medical cart.
Later in the game, Uzomah made his way back to the sidelines, and during the post-game festivities, he was visible with a brace on his left leg.
Uzomah stated on the team’s website, “I had to be out there for those guys.” “I never would have overlooked that.”
The seasoned tight end expressed his belief on the possibility of playing in Super Bowl LVI against the Los Angeles Rams on February 13 on the team’s website.
After the victory, Uzomah tweeted to thank supporters for their well wishes and to say he was “focused on getting healthy” for Cincinnati’s game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Sunday against the Rams.
Following his recovery from an Achilles injury that halted his 2020 campaign in the second week, Uzomah has played a crucial role in Cincinnati’s offensive, which has enabled the team to win its first Super Bowl since 1989. He has 13 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown in the postseason run this year.
