The Cincinnati Reds announced a set of important dates for 2025 Spring Training earlier today. Pitchers and catchers are set to report to Goodyear, Arizona on February 10th to kick off the start of everything.
Two days later on February 12th pitchers and catchers will have their first workout on the field as a group. Position players are set to report to Goodyear on February 15th and the first full team workout will be held on February 17th. It will be less than a week later, on February 22nd, that the Reds will meet up with their complex mates – the Cleveland Guardians – for the first game of spring training.
With new manager Terry Francona on board, the Cincinnati Reds will be looking to have a better spring training than they had in 2024. Things got bad early in March when expected starting third baseman Noelvi Marte was suspended for 80 games for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. Things then got worse as Matt McLain and Edwin Arroyo both injured their shoulders while diving and went on to require surgery and missed the entirety of the 2024 season. Shortly after that the team would also place TJ Friedl, Brandon Williamson, Nick Lodolo, Sam Moll, and Alex Young on the injured list. To say it was a tough month would be an understatement.
Given that you are already here, and that we’ve already mentioned a new manager, you know how the 2024 season went for the Reds. It wasn’t great as the team finished 77-85, one game ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates who finished in last place in the division. Cincinnati was 16 games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers in the division and failed to make the playoffs for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. They have not finished better than third place in the division since 2012 when they went 97-65 and won the division.
