Hanford Dixon, a legendary cornerback for the Cleveland Browns, was a constant in the Cleveland lineup in the 1980s. He and Frank Minnifield formed one of the most formidable defensive back tandems of that time.

Dixon was one of the few former players to receive a replica from the Browns when the organization revealed in April that the fan-favorite helmet design—which includes a white facemask instead of a dark one—was returning.

A video footage of the renowned defender responding to being given the team’s present was posted on Twitter by “The Hanford Dixon Show.”

Dixon stated firmly, “I pull it open, and there it is with the little note; it’s the helmet and the white facemask.”

When co-host Gabriella Kreuz found out what was inside the package, Dixon was asked what came to mind right away.

Dixon recapped his response, telling Kreuz that he contacted Cleveland’s Alumni Relations division and expressed his gratitude for the present to the Browns staff member.

He pointed out that the present was all the more meaningful because just three replica helmets were given to former players.

Dixon remembered that the staff member had informed him, “Obviously, we had to send one to the Top Dawg.”

During his nine-year tenure, Dixon played 131 games for the Browns, starting all but three of them.

His nickname for the area inside Municipal Stadium is the “Dawg Pound,” as he and Minnifield used to yell at opponents while playing.

The cornerback was chosen for the Pro Bowl three times, in 1986, 1987, and 1988.

Throughout his career, Dixon—a 1981 first-round draft selection—intercepted 26 passes.
