Cowboys’ Dan Quinn Emerging as Commanders Coaching Target After Ben Johnson Drop Out

Albert Breer disclosed his preferred choice for the Washington Commanders’ coaching search after Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, removed his name from consideration.

Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, has withdrawn his name from consideration for the head coaching position of the Washington Commanders, citing his desire to win a Super Bowl.

For quite some time, he was considered the right man for Josh Harris, the owner, and the upcoming Washington football team.

The commanders are now forced to fumble through the remaining portions of their interviews, switching to names that the public feels aren’t as fascinating as Johnson. That doesn’t always imply that the hire won’t be good, but some Washington supporters have legitimate grievances with Motor City.

Regardless of one’s feelings toward Tuesday’s alleged transgressions, the commanders are forced to change their focus in their head coaching hunt.

Albert Breer supported a name that had already been connected to the opening in an interview with Grant Paulsen.

December 11, 2022, Arlington, Texas, USA: Before the Dallas Cowboys play the Houston Texans at AT&T Stadium, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and head coach Mike McCarthy have a conversation near midfield.

Raymond Carlin III of USA TODAY Sports must be given credit.

Breer stated, I believe Dan Quinn, the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, is definitely in the mix. We’ve seen in Atlanta that a man is capable of establishing a culture.

He established a strong team there, so you can be sure he has the contacts to entice talented offensive coordinators.

During his final season as head coach of the Falcons, Quinn won the NFC. There, he appointed current San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, arguably the best offensive mind in sports, as his offensive coordinator.

Thanks to the Shanahan tree, quarterback Matt Ryan of Atlanta was named the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Washington will be able to select one of the best passers in the class with the second overall choice, and they will be hoping to team him with another Quinn relative.

Considering Quinn’s past interactions with Shanahan and the merciless ways in which certain offensive departments have torn apart his defense in Dallas, a wide-zone specialist would seem to be a plausible choice, should he receive the call.Dallas
