Who will take over the Dallas Cowboys when Jerry Jones is no longer in charge?
After Jerry Jones leaves the Dallas Cowboys, who will be the new owner?
Jerry Jones is still going strong as the owner of the Dallas Cowboys at the age of 81, but what will happen when he must eventually step down?
The Dallas Cowboys have been owned by Jerry Jones for the past 35 years. At 46, he purchased the team. He is currently 81 years old. There was discussion about what would happen to the squad when he inevitably stands down as far as ten years ago. That time must be drawing near, surely? It’s difficult to be a Cowboys fan and not say, “I hope so!”
Jones took over in 1989 and mercilessly dismissed our cherished coach, Landry, Tom.We grew to adore Jimmy Johnson, our utterly inexperienced player who, by some miracle, led us to two Super Bowl triumphs until Jerry dismissed him as well. But even so, we managed to win the Super Bowl three times in four years by 1995, so we temporarily held our tongues.
Let’s go back to the present day. It has been over thirty years since the Cowboys won a Super Bowl or NFC Championship game following the dynasty of the 1990s.The most Jerry can claim the Cowboys have accomplished in the previous 27 years, apart from building a $9 billion brand, is that they have made a few appearances in the playoffs and, with just four exceptions, have virtually always been eliminated early. The thing is – during those first two Super Bowl wins under Johnson’s coaching, it was he who helped build the roster of stars that even Barry Switzer was able to take over and lead to victory one time. But Jerry couldn’t handle allowing Johnson the kind of control (and credit) he wanted, and so he fired him. And he’s never given another coach full control since then either. He appointed himself general manager and won’t allow anybody else to work in that capacity.
Thus, even if the Cowboys have accomplished nothing in over thirty years, the man in charge of the team cannot be fired.Jerry Jones can only leave the Dallas Cowboys or pass away in order to no longer be the team’s owner and general manager. What happens next, though?
After Jerry Jones, who will be the new owner of the Cowboys?
In addition to Jerry, a few other individuals hold significant decision-making authority inside the Cowboys organization. Will McClay is one of those individuals; he has been Dallas’ vice president of player personnel since 2017, which has somewhat improved matters. Next, andNot to be overlooked are Jerry’s three children, Stephen, Charlotte, and Jerry Jr., who are all employed by the company.
