A fistfight breaks out during an NBA Finals watch party at TD Garden as Celtics supporters trade blows following a Game 4 blowout loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
A number of Boston Celtics supporters got into a fight on Friday night during a team watch party, as emotions spiked following the team’s crushing defeat in Game 4 to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavs won 122–84 to extend the series, denying the Celtics the chance to sweep the NBA Finals away from home.
Meanwhile, footage of a fan wearing a Paul Pierce jersey striking someone else incited outrage at the Celtics’ TD Garden.
As the other Boston supporter was struggling to stand up, the fan wearing the Pierce jersey knocked another fan wearing a green T-shirt to the ground and gave him a solid ten-foot punch.
A fan wearing a zip-up hoodie appeared to be trying to pull the man wearing the Pierce jersey away from the other man when he grabbed him from behind. However, the man wearing the No. 34 jersey was punched by a friend of the other man.
Security and other spectators intervened after that in an attempt to defuse the situation, but the drama was far from over.
The guy wearing the Pierce jersey screamed at the man he was fighting to call him a “p***y.”
And after being helped to his feet and escalating the stairs with confidence, the fan in the green T-shirt lunged towards another fan who did not appear to be involved.
The fan in the T-shirt was kicked out by the previously non-involved supporter after both men ended up on their backsides.
Boston struggled on the court and fell behind 61–35 at the half, a deficit from which the team was unable to overcome in their first loss in more than a month to the Mavs.
It was officially the third biggest point differential in a single game of the league’s championship series ever. It was one of the most lopsided blowouts in the history of the NBA Finals. The 38-point loss was the official score.
With 29 points in the third quarter, Luka Doncic led the Mavericks before being benched for the remainder of the contest.
Though it was a difficult night for the Boston Celtics, players Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined to shoot a 7-22 total.
The series returns to Boston on Monday for Game 5 and a potential championship, giving the Celtics and their supporters a chance at redemption.
