Jason Kidd signs a new deal with the Mavericks. Who will coach the Lakers going forward?
Tuesday is the Mavs’ playoff game against the Thunder, and they have signed a new multi-year contract with the highly-regarded head coach.

As Jason Kidd’s third season with the Dallas Mavericks draws to a close, the organization has secured the desired head coach with a new multi-year contract.

The Los Angeles Lakers were reportedly considering Kidd as a potential Darvin Ham replacement, according to an ESPN story.

Kidd won the 2020 NBA title while serving as the Lakers’ assistant coach for two seasons, from 2019 to 2021.

He will remain in Dallas for the foreseeable future thanks to this contract extension, which also contributes to stability as the Mavs pursue their 2024 postseason run.

The Dallas Mavericks announced today that head coach Jason Kidd and the franchise had agreed to a multi-year contract extension.

Mavs general manager Nico Harrison stated, “I have known Jason for a long time, and I cannot think of a better, more qualified choice to lead this team going ahead.”

“As a former NBA Champion and Hall of Fame player, Jason offers a depth of knowledge and experience to this position that is unmatched.”

“I look forward to working alongside him as we continue to build upon the culture and foundation of success he has helped nurture throughout his stint as head coach.

He has gained the confidence and respect of our players as well as that of so many others around the league.”

Will J.J. Redick take over as head coach of the Lakers?

The Lakers are in dire need of a win with Darvin Ham’s successor after splitting with him. They lost to the Denver Nuggets 4-1 in the first round of the playoffs this year, and they have been unduly dependent on the aging LeBron James for the 2023–2024 campaign.

The Lakers are apparently making a move for former NBA player and current podcast phenomenon JJ Redick, as Kidd is no longer available.

The 39-year-old only announced his retirement from professional basketball in 2021, but in the intervening years, he has become a prominent figure in the media, most notably as co-host of the “Mind the Game” podcast alongside LeBron James.
