Alcaraz, 20, and Sinner, 22, appear to be the ATP Tour’s future leaders after sharing the two biggest championships of the year, the Australian Open and Indian Wells.
Although Medvedev, who is 28 years old, is older than Sinner and Alcaraz, he has the form to indicate that, should Djokovic, 36, retire, he may be their main competitor.
Before defending his Miami Open title, Medvedev stated, “I’m trying to catch them here and there,” in reference to Alcaraz and Sinner.
“However, I always enjoy a good challenge when these young guys emerge; it only makes you stronger. The more I play, the more young guys will emerge, and the more I’ll attempt to modify my style of play, which is what I’m doing at the moment.”
Particularly Alcaraz has become a huge fan favorite because of his thrilling playing style and countless highlight-reel moments.
Although he doesn’t always get excited the same way, Medvedev claims that for him, winning is what matters most.
“I think it’s in every sport when you play defensively, people want to see the shots,” he stated.
Carlos crushed the ball, so naturally, he garnered a lot of fans as soon as he joined the tour.
Medvedev’s opening Miami Open matchup is against Marton Fucsovics. With a 14-3 season record, he hopes to capture his first championship in 2024.
“I practiced for two days, and I feel good on the court,” Medvedev remarked.
Generally speaking, I enjoyed this court last year. Although I haven’t played on Stadium yet, it seemed to move quickly last year as well. I enjoy Miami, I’m prepared, and I want to be a good tennis player. It’s never simple to move directly to another event after playing late at the [last] one. However, qualifying for the final gives you confidence, so I feel prepared.
