Daniil Medvedev describes the mutual effects between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
When asked how excellent of a clay court player Novak Djokovic is, Daniil Medvedev offered special homage to both Rafael Nadal and the Serb, stating that the Serb is a terrific clay courter and that he would have probably won more titles on clay if it weren’t for the undisputed clay court king, Nadal.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is back in action this week at the Rome Masters after missing the Madrid Masters to return to the drawing board and concentrate on training after losing to Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinal. Djokovic has reached nine finals in Rome, although he has only triumphed in three of those matches, primarily due to Nadal.
Additionally, Medvedev was asked to rank Djokovic’s clay court abilities prior to the Serb’s first match in Rome.
Then, Medvedev emphasized that Djokovic has had some exceptional performances on clay during his career and that, in the absence of Nadal, he most likely would have won more titles on the slowest tennis surface.
After that, Medvedev again demonstrated his profound respect for Nadal by stating that, but for Djokovic, the Spaniard would likely have won more hard-court and grass-court championships.
Medvedev: Djokovic would have likely won more titles if it weren’t for Nadal, since he is a terrific clay player.
Yes, without a doubt. It’s difficult to find someone who comes close to Rafa’s legacy on clay when he wins 14 Roland Garros, I don’t know, and 10 Rome, I can’t even recall the exact number, Medvedev remarked.
But Novak, he’s incredible everywhere. He may have a few fewer titles than he could have due to Rafa on clay. Rafa has similar experience. Perhaps Rafa would have more titles on the hard and grass if there were no Novaks.
Djokovic has won three French Open championships and every clay Masters event at least twice, despite Nadal’s supremacy on clay courts.
He still takes home three. Roland Garros, Monte-Carlo twice, and Rome perhaps three or four times. It’s incredible. According to Medvedev, this is the reason why Novak is unquestionably among the world’s greatest athletes.
