Is Detroit a chance to win the Christian Wilkins sweepstakes?
Less than a week before free agency opens, the Kansas City Chiefs and Chris Jones agreed to a large contract deal, which helped shape the defensive tackle market late on Saturday night.
Jones established a new benchmark for the price of a gifted defensive lineman when he inked a five-year contract worth $95 million in guaranteed money. Since Jones is out, attention will be focused on Christian Wilkins of Miami, one of the best defensive linemen available.
Wilkins will be able to sign a free agent contract as the Dolphins decided not to franchise tag him. He has accumulated 20.5 sacks in his five NFL seasons, including a career-high 9.5 in 2023.
With the resources at his disposal to help the team bolster their roster, general manager Brad Holmes of the Detroit Lions may be interested in making a big splash at the position.
Because of this, a recent ESPN article listed the Lions as one of Wilkins’ possible suitors.
Christian Wilkins of Miami is expected to be in high demand following Chris Jones’ big-ticket signing on Saturday night, as other teams like the Texans and Lions seek to improve at the position, according to Dan Graziano.
