On Sunday, the Spartans will play their next game: Indiana.The Detroit Lions have chosen not to tender restricted free agent cornerback Jerry Jacobs, which will allow the 26-year-old to become an unrestricted free agency on March 13, according to sources from ESPN on Wednesday.
Jerry Jacobs, who was not selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, had a tremendous effect with the Lions. In 40 games, including 29 starts, he recorded 131 tackles and four interceptions.
He started 12 of the 15 games he played in the season, recording career highs of 55 tackles and three interceptions.
Jacobs makes contributions to the Lions, but his time there takes an unexpected turn when the team decides not to tender him, giving him the opportunity to look for work elsewhere.
Jacobs will now be able to negotiate with other teams as an unrestricted free agent as a result of the judgment.
The cornerback is a fascinating candidate for teams looking for defensive talent in free agency due to his promising performance and career-best figures in interceptions and tackles from the previous season.
