Breaking News: Ford Field sets new decibel record in Lions playoff win over Rams

Ford Field was electrified during the Detroit Lions’ Wild Card playoff victory against the Los Angeles Rams. A report from MLive’s Kyle Meinke claims that the boisterous Detroit crowd set a new stadium record by raising the inside level to 133.6 dB.

The Centers for Disease Control say that sounds like a jet engine, according to Meinke.

Prior to the current season, the Lions’ decibel record stood at 126.1, which they had established against the Washington Commanders in Week 2 of 2022. In a game against the Seahawks in Week 2 of 2023, the Lions surpassed 127.5, shattering the previous record. When the noise level in a Lions game against the Carolina Panthers reached 126.5 in Week 5, the crowd almost shattered that record.

Meinke reports that the decibel level actually hit 129.6, which would have shattered the record, during the decisive kneel-down that sealed the team’s first postseason victory in thirty-two years.

Coach Dan Campbell remarked, It was perhaps the best I’ve ever been a part of, during his press conference on Monday. A big part of it was that the event began an hour before kickoff and lasted for just four hours, during which time the crowd would not stop going crazy. And the conversations with (Jared) Goff were just—what an incredible, extraordinary setting. Anyone who was present, in my opinion, will never forget that. That is not going to be something you discuss for the rest of your life. That was unique.
