Throughout the first week of free agency, the Detroit Lions have taken care of their secondary by keeping one well-known cornerback and trading for another.

However, one insider speculates that a much larger shift may be on the horizon. The Lions have expressed interest in Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who is anticipated to be traded, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

Sneed himself is reportedly disenchanted with life in Kansas City, even after winning the Supper Bowl, and would want to seek a fresh venture with the Detroit Lions, whom he considers to be a great, well-spirited, and promising team.

Sneed, as Meinke pointed out, is among the best defensive backs still available and has drawn a lot of interest from possible trade partners.

“After L’Jarius Sneed received the franchise tag in Kansas City and Jaylon Johnson signed a four-year, $76 million deal to return to Chicago, the top of the market has thinned out,” Meinke said. But Sneed has been granted permission to look for a trade, and it has been claimed that seven teams have made inquiries about him. And your Detroit Lions are one of them.

Chiefs Cornerback Would Fill Important Need in Detroit

The Lions are still in need of a No. 1 cornerback, and Meinke pointed out that one of their major needs is cornerback. After Emmanuel Moseley suffered an ACL tear just two snaps into his debut game with the Lions and had torn another one the previous year, the team did attempt to address the secondary by bringing him back for a second season.

Additionally, the Lions strengthened their secondary by acquiring Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis; nonetheless, Meinke expressed concern that adding Sneed would

“More than anything else, the Lions need a true CB1, which would allow them to move [Cam] Sutton to CB2 and further develop their depth from there,” Meinke wrote. “More additions are on the way, but Mosesey signed a new one-year contract this week and will have a chance to prove he’s still the same guy who played fantastic football out in San Francisco.”

With their first-round selection, the Lions might select a cornerback, but Meinke pointed out that Sneed might be the best option. It would cost a lot because the Chiefs are probably looking for a first-round selection in return for their starting cornerback.

None of the available cornerbacks fit Detroit better, according to Meinke. “Last season, Seed allowed an NFL-high 4.8 yards per target while picking interception two additional passes and breaking up fourteen passes. Former slot player who has developed into a true force on the perimeter, he would provide Detroit’s defense the playmaking skills and versatility they need. He’s in the heart of his peak too, at just 27 years old.

Waiting on Decision From Chiefs

It’s unclear how eager the Chiefs are to deal Sneed, even though the Lions are one of the clubs expressing interest in him. AtoZ Sports reporter Destin Adams pointed out that the Chiefs have not yet informed possible trade partners if they intend to move Sneed.

Adams posted on X, “The Colts and other teams interested in trading for the talented CB are waiting on the Chiefs to make a decision on if they plan on trading the CB at all. That’s the latest update I’ve received on the #Colts pursuit of L’Jarius Sneed.” “A lot of the involved teams are hoping to hear back today or in the next several days. It’s a waiting game till then.
