Former Lions defensive back coach Brian Duker is hired by the Dolphins
A former defensive lineman for the Detroit Lions has joined the Miami Dolphins as their coordinator of the pass game and secondary coach.
After spending three seasons with Motown, Brian Duker is about to leave and take on a new opportunity for the AFC South powerhouse franchise, as reported by NFL Network.
In 2023, Durker served as the defensive backs coach with the Lions, where he assisted Aaron Glenn.
Duker began the 2022 season working with the safeties before being given the responsibility of working more closely with the defensive backs.
He assisted S. Kerby Joseph in being the first rookie in the NFL since 2005 to record at least four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in a season, according to the team website.
As a defensive assistant on staff in 2021, Duker closely collaborated with the secondary unit and the team’s defensive passing game tactics.
Many were curious about Deshea Townsend’s hiring and how it might affect the Lions’ secondary.
For the previous two seasons, Townsend, 48, was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defensive backs coach and coordinator of the defense’s passing game.
The seasoned defensive coordinator has also worked with the Arizona Cardinals (2011–12), Tennessee Titans (2016–17), New York Giants (2018), and Chicago Bears (2019–21).
Along with that, Townsend won two Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
