Targeting needs without hesitation in the Detroit Lions’ seven-round pre-Super Bowl mock draft

The Detroit Lions are in offseason mode rather than getting ready for Super Bowl LVIII. That doesn’t imply that this season wasn’t a huge success—it definitely was. Two playoff victories and a division title were significant accomplishments, and the NFC Championship Game defeat was a close call that added gasoline to an unquenchable corporate fire.

With the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowls held last week, it’s also official draft season. For those who cover the Lions, mock draft season often begins at the conclusion of the regular season, if not earlier. However, because of the deep playoff run, mock drafts are only getting started as we approach February

Here is our pre-Super Bowl seven-round mock draft for the Lions, utilizing the mock draft simulator from Pro Football Network. Feel free to use it.

Detroit Lions mock draft ahead of Super Bowl LVIII: First Round, Pick No. 29: Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter, CB

Although Emmanuel Moseley and C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s injuries prevented the Lions’ secondary from properly working out last offseason, general manager Brad Holmes made an attempt to address it this time around. Cornerback is still the team’s top need.

Quinyon Mitchell of Toledo and Kalen King of Penn State were eliminated from consideration at No. 29 due to the outcomes of this simulated simulation. Lassiter, though, makes a nice consolation prize.

While he recorded an 85.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus last season with a 48.7 passer rating allowed on 15 receptions allowed on 39 targets (eight pass breakups), more interceptions would have been nice to see on his three-year Georgia stat sheet. Despite being somewhat undersized (6 feet, 180 pounds), he combines quick feet and physicality to be a willing tackler who has recorded 8.5 tackles for loss in the last two seasons.

While some may think Lassiter is a bit of a stretch to be selected in the first round, the Lions select the best player available in a position of extreme need.
