Detroit Lions
Detroit’s downtown is like the quiet before the storm. In a maroon jacket, white dress shirt, khaki pants, and brown loafers, Lions quarterback Jared Goff looks more like a Fortune 500 CEO than a starting NFL quarterback.
Goff recently gave some of the Lions’ biggest supporters the same Breitling watches that he gave the offensive linemen on the team throughout the season as a surprise thanks to a relationship with Jared Jewelers. Goff transformed the historic venue into his makeshift office for media representatives, and for the afternoon, cameras have taken the place of smoke in the cigar bar where we are sitting.
Despite their shared affection, Goff’s future with the Lions remains unknown despite being Detroit’s top choice. The quarterback, who is about to enter the final season of his current contract, responds to questions about his future with a five-word philosophy. Is it possible to finalize a long-term deal before the season begins?
In an exclusive interview with Heavy Sports on April 23, 2024, Goff says, “Just play it by ear.”
The quarterback keeps thinking about the current talks that are going on with the Lions. Although Goff said that talks about a contract have taken place, he would rather “let his agents and the Lions front office do their jobs.”
Goff continued, “There have been discussions, but I’ll let them do their jobs.”
Detroit is going to smash the NFL draft attendance record in the next few days. In 2024, Goff will take the stage among Detroit icons like Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders, and Eminem to formally launch the NFL draft. Lions supporters have been eagerly awaiting a victor, and Goff, head coach Dan Campbell, and team have delivered.
The San Francisco 49ers came back in the second half to win the NFC Championship 34–31, and Detroit was two quarters of the way to the Super Bowl. Goff makes it clear that his goals are to “win championships” and stay in Detroit.
Regarding his aspirations for the future, Goff said, “Just want to win.” “Just want to come out on top. desire to be champs. wish to play here for a very long time and bring a Super Bowl to Detroit.”
Prior to the draft, the Lions extended the contract of standout receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, but Goff is still waiting. On April 24, Adam Schefter of ESPN claimed that Goff and Detroit were not yet close to an agreement.
