All-Pro offensive tackle Penei Sewell and quick receiver Jameson Williams of the Detroit Lions are designated as questionable to play against the Tampa Bay Bucs on Sunday. Marcus Davenport, the edge rusher, is unlikely to play, and Isaiah Williams, the receiver, and Ifeatu Melifonwu, the safety, are already out.
The week began with Sewell missing back-to-back practices due to an ankle injury he suffered during the season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Rams. However, he just made a brief comeback on Friday, and Detroit is hoping he’ll play when they play Tampa.
Before Friday’s practice, head coach Dan Campbell stated, “Not sure yet.” “We’ll see.”
Sewell hasn’t missed a snap since his rookie year in 2021 and is coming off an All-Pro season in which he gave up just one sack. In the Week 1 victory over Los Angeles, he gave up two hits and no sacks.
Jameson Williams’ ankle injury sustained against the Rams is another reason he is graded as doubtful. After leaving the game for a short while, he came back to end with five receptions for 131 yards and one touchdown. Despite being hurt, he was able to practise all week, if not much, and is anticipated to play against Tampa.
Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond are Detroit’s only receivers who are entirely healthy, as fellow receiver Isaiah Williams (abdomen) has already been ruled out. It is anticipated that two wide receivers, at the very least, will be promoted from the practice squad for the upcoming weekend. Last week, Tom Kennedy received a promotion; other practice squad options include Tim Patrick, Allen Robinson, and Donovan Peoples-Jones.
Due to a groin issue, Davenport is unlikely to participate on defence versus Tampa. He did not practise during the week, and on Friday he refused to talk about his situation.
