Eddie Murphy has tied the knot officially!
According to a People exclusive, the comedian, 63, and Paige Butcher, 44, tied the knot on July 9. It is said that the pair, who are parents to two children together, exchanged vows in Anguilla during a small ceremony that was seen by close friends and family. Pictures from the momentous day show the Oscar nominee looking dapper in a cream suit and grinning broadly next to Butcher, who was decked up in a strapless lace column gown.
The “Shrek” actor attracted attention from fans when, in a recent episode of The New York Times podcast “The Interview,” he twice referred to Butcher as his wife.
The pair, who began dating in 2012 and declared their engagement in 2018, has two children: a 5-year-old son named Max and an 8-year-old daughter named Izzy. In addition, Murphy is the father of eight more kids from a prior union.
On “The Interview,” Murphy disclosed that he depends on Butcher to inform him about developments in popular culture. “I’m really disconnected. I used to know everyone and I was really cool, but now there’s just too much things. “Who’s this person?” he asked my wife.
Murphy and Butcher wed in a tiny, private ceremony in front of their loved ones and close friends on Tuesday, July 9, in Anguilla, according to People magazine, which also released exclusive images from the event.
After dating since 2012, the couple first became engaged in September of 2018. Their son is five years old, and their daughter is eight years old. In 2016, they became parents to their first child together. After becoming engaged, the couple had their second child in 2018.
Murphy expressed his gratitude to Butcher and his kids briefly while winning the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, saying, “I want to say thank you to Paige and all of my lovely children for your love, support, and inspiration.”
For Murphy, this is their second marriage; for Butcher, it is their first.
Murphy has reverted to the classic role of Axel Foley from Beverly Hills Cop, which he first played in the 1984 film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
After his daughter’s life is in danger in the fourth part, which made its Netflix debut on July 3, Murphy goes back to Beverly Hills. There, he hooks up to investigate a plot with longtime friends John Taggart (John Ashton) and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), as well as new colleague Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt).
Murphy made a joke about playing the same character again during an interview on the Today show, saying, “It felt like old guy.” I’m 63 years old and I completed Beverly Hills Cop when I was 21.
“I played the lead in my first film, Beverly Hills Cop. “They call me Axel Foley when I travel abroad,” he remarked. “Axel is a common person. He is the everyday person who steps up to the plate; he is neither a superhero nor a super-cop. That’s probably why many find it appealing. Above all, he is an amusing person.
