As the British No. 1 team defeated the Magdalena Frech in Nottingham, Naomi Osaka defeated, Katie Boluter and Emma Raducanui clashed.
Katie Boulter defeated Magdalena Frech of Poland with ease to set up an exciting all-British semi-final against Emma Raducanu at the Rothesay Open. The weather stopped play in the first set, leaving the defending champion and British No. 1 Boulter up 6-2. After spending just over an hour on the court, Boulter came back to win 6-2 6-4.
After a rain-delayed match, Katie Boulter of Britain won 6-2 6-4 to go to the Rothesay Open semi-finals in Nottingham. Boulter took just one hour and 19 minutes to complete the match.
Boulter is hoping to keep the title she earned the previous year after defeating Rebecca Marino on Wednesday.
Due to inclement weather, the last four matchup between Emma Raducanu and Francesca Jones, both of whom are British, will pit the 27-year-old against the victor.
In her on-court interview, Boulter stated, “I thought I played some pretty fantastic tennis in the first set, some of the best I’ve ever played.”
“I’m gaining some momentum gradually. All I can say is that I’m glad I survived today. I wanted to get it done as soon as possible because I can see a cloud of rain approaching. I’m out of time for any more rain delays. It’s incredibly fantastic to see so many British people succeeding. Jodie [Burrage] and I were in the final last year. I believe we’re in a great position because I played Hev [Heather Watson] in the semifinals and Harriet [Dart] in the quarterfinals.
In the first game of the match, British No. 1 Boulter put pressure on her Polish opponent right away, but she was unable to convert two break points.
After the two played each other for four games in a tie, Boulter finally broke through. After a rain delay, the British player won five straight games to take a one-set lead.
At the beginning of the second set, Boulter angrily shot back at Frech, who had held service and then broken for a 2-0 lead. She took command for a stretch of four games in a row before she turned two break points into a 5-3 lead and held off Frech.
In order to guarantee there will be a Brit in the final and to set up a possible blockbuster matchup with Raducanu, she finished the triumph with a cozy love service hold.
Meanwhile, Ons Jabeur, the top seed, defeated Linda Fruhvirtova handily in the round of 16 to secure her place in the quarterfinals.
The Tunisian advanced and secured a clash with sixth seed Karolina Pliskova by dropping just three games during the encounter.
Fruhvirtova led 1-0 after surviving a break point in her opening service game, but that would be the last moment of advantage she would have as Jabeur won six of the following seven games to highlight the disparity in skill between the two and take the opening set.
In the first game of the second set, Jabeur missed break points, much like in the first, but she quickly corrected herself.
The 29-year-old secured a hat-trick of breaks to move peacefully into the final eight after the match leveled at 1-1.
