The tennis legend is not convinced Emma Raducanu will get back to her best.
Emma Raducanu might not be able to return to her peak form due to the physical strain of the WTA Tour.
According to Pam Shriver, Raducanu’s wounds might eventually prevent her from rising back to the top.
The former British No. 1 will always have access to the Grand Slam-winning experience; she will continue.
Shriver is interested in what Raducanu will bring to the WTA 1000 event when she enters Indian Wells as a wildcard.
Shriver remarked, I find tennis these days to be very taxing on the joints.
I’m interested in seeing how she holds up over time.
While some players never fully regain their form, history suggests Raducanu is highly eager to succeed as a player once more.
That run should give her confidence that she can compete with the greatest players in the world when healthy, even though it has been more than two years since she won the US Open.
For a player who is yearning for a major triumph, Indian Wells will also be crucial.
Shriver thinks that Jessica Pegula’s new coaching staff will enable her to make a breakthrough in the Grand Slams.
Shriver stated that Pegula has played consistently everywhere she goes for the past couple of years.
She’s currently in a transitional phase. I had the opportunity to observe a portion of her new coaching staff in San Diego, and it seems like they have a winning chemistry that will help Pegula succeed in the majors as well as at WTA 1000 events. Even though Pegula has remained steadfast, a shift could enable her to achieve even more.
Shriver was curious to watch Qinwen Zheng, a promising Chinese player, compete at Indian Wells.
Although Shriver thought her run to the Australian Open was amazing, she wondered if it had shown any weaknesses in her game.
She believes that Zheng’s reunion with coach Pere Riba was fantastic news, and the outcomes in Melbourne were evident.
Shriver remarked, You could see her coming for a while now.
She gets along well with Pere Riba in their professional connection. I was relieved to see them reconcile.
Although she is only 21 years old, the hiccup in her throat is a little concerning. She did a great job, in my opinion, managing the strain down in Melbourne.
Shriver supported Elena Rybakina, the reigning champion, as the clear favorite to win the Indian Wells title.
I enjoy watching her serve—it’s one of the top shots in women’s tennis right now, Shriver remarked.
She lost to Anna Blinkova in the second round of the Australian Open, in one of the most remarkable [22–20 in the third] tiebreaks you’ll ever witness. She has the ability to win every competition she enters.
