Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka, and Caroline Wozniacki, the former US Open champion, receive wild cards to Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old, who missed the French Open to get ready for the grass-court season, has an inconsistent playing schedule for 2024. Last week, she was defeated by British No. 1 Katie Boulter in the Nottingham Open semifinals.
Raducanu had three surgeries around this time last year, involving cuts to both wrists and an ankle. She is now making slow progress toward recovery.
Following her match against Boulter in Nottingham, Raducanu—who moved up 44 spots to No. 165 in the most recent WTA rankings—provided a positive update, stating: “I feel really good, I went and did intervals after the match.” I am feeling strong and capable of playing tomorrow. I am just getting over a slight cold and bug, but other than that, I am in excellent physical shape.
“I thought the grass court season got off to a good start, and it was good to have some matches. Though I am disappointed, Katie did a really good job playing and serving.”
Raducanu’s last opportunity to play competitive tennis is from June 24-29, just before Wimbledon begins, at the Rothesay International in Eastbourne.
Less than two months out of school and without a Tour victory to her name, the eighteen-year-old made the fourth round at the All England Club, where she made her breakthrough.
We will have to discuss my boyfriend’s absence from the trip tonight and determine whether or not we are still together because I had assumed that he would after his victory in Hertogenbosch!
“I hope he is listening to this, we have got some talking to do! It’s been a great week for me.”
Pliskova, the 2016 champion, booked her spot in the final with a 6-7 (9) 6-1 6-4 win over Diane Parry.
She managed to take the first set of the final off Boulter, even after the Briton initially moved ahead of her. Pliskova snatched back breaks of her own to take the first set 6-4.
In the second set, Boulter broke early and held that lead to win 6-3, making it easier for herself to navigate.
The Briton dominated the third set. Although Pliskova picked up two games, Boulter broke her serve to close out the deciding set and win the tournament
making its premiere in 2021.
