The Toffees challenged the ruling made by an independent committee after they were penalized in November for allegedly breaking Premier League financial rules (Sky News).
Everton was anticipating a punishment for a second charge that was expected in January. According to Mark Douglas’ article for iNews on January 29, the Toffees are more concerned with appealing the first conviction than making any last-minute signings during the transfer window.
He did, however, add that should a suitable offer come in, Godfrey and Keane, the periphery defenders, will be free to depart Goodison Park prior to the deadline of February 1.
Not unexpected
It has been established beyond reasonable doubt that Goodison Park would see a low number of incomings this month, and this has come to pass.
Even, while it would help the team’s chances of avoiding relegation, it does not look that there will be a crazy rush of late action to expand Sean Dyche’s choices before February 1.
Rather, it appears that the emphasis is on winning the appeal against the 10-point deduction, a regulation that the independent panel seemed to just create. If they are successful, it would significantly increase their chances of surviving.
Regarding departures, Godfrey and Keane have both been mediocre players at best. Other than the fact that they already have a somewhat thin roster and would struggle if they were to leave, neither player would truly be missed.
