Despite making just 12 appearances this season, the 35-year-old Toffees captain feels he can still be “competitive” at the Premier League level, and the club has extended an offer for a new contract to him.

After spending the last 15 seasons at Goodison Park, Coleman claims he has a duty to support Everton in whatever way he can for as long as he can.

Coleman reportedly stated, “I’ve been offered something, but I haven’t sat down and really considered it yet,” according to statements cited by the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s time to take a seat and reflect, but I have no problem admitting that I adore the football team. We’ll see where the next few weeks take us, but I feel like I have a responsibility to support the football team while I still feel like I can.

“I’ll understand when wingers are swerving past me.” In training, I play against some of the best wingers, yet I still feel competitive.

For the past fifteen years, Coleman has been a fixture on the right flank for Everton supporters. However, the Irishman’s lack of playing time this season raises the possibility that his time on Merseyside may be drawing to an end.

Coleman has only ever appeared in fewer league games than he has this season—12—during his first year in 2009–10. Under normal conditions, this would be cause for concern.

Since joining the Everton team in 2009, Seamus Coleman has made 422 appearances at Goodison Park.

Offering Coleman a new contract makes sense, though, as Everton’s current situation is anything but normal and there is hardly enough money to replace the 35-year-old unless significant compensation is received for other players.

Due to the club’s inability to finance a much-needed revamp of the Toffees roster this summer, senior players like Ashley Young and Idrissa Gueye are also expected to sign new contracts.

Given his devotion to the team he has spent 15 years calling home, Coleman’s support system won’t end with Sean Dyche, and you would think the Irishman would still be wearing the blue shirt come playoff time.
