A record that had stood for forty years was broken on Saturday when Everton lost 3-1 to West Ham United at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche was miffed at full time after missing a penalty and multiple other excellent opportunities yesterday.

The Toffees would have had plenty of breathing room and eight points above the drop zone if they had won, but Luton suffered their 16th defeat of the season at the hands of Aston Villa in the evening kickoff.

However, in the end, it was a dismal day for the Goodison Park faithful and, concerningly, it marked the end of a 40-year record.

Everton set winless Goodison Park record after West Ham defeat

Everton is now 10 games into their Premier League losing streak, putting them dangerously close to the bottom three.

The Merseysiders haven’t won a league match in 2024, and their most recent three points came from a 2-0 triumph at Turf Moor on December 16.

Everton’s current winless streak in the top division is the longest since 1984, according to X account Everton Extra.

Everton had played exceptionally well defensively leading up to Saturday’s loss, but they have struggled mightily up attack this year.

Their reckless behavior has played a major role in their losing streak, and yesterday served to reinforce that belief.

Sean Dyche must find a winning formula

The manager of the Toffees needs to figure out how to put his team back in the victory column.

Their disastrous summer transfer window is clearly visible, as evidenced by the misfiring of £25 million signing Beto and the hardly noticeable performance of Youssef Chermitti.

To enable a more attacking approach that creates more opportunities, Everton might profit from a shape adjustment.

Granted, they produced more than enough to win the match yesterday, but even so, if they had produced a few more, probability would have dictated at least one or two more goals.

Dyche ought to think about bringing an additional body up front to assist his lone striker in order to counteract his team’s futility in front of goal.

Something needs to change, whether it’s the addition of Academy Award winner Lewis Dobbin or the previously stated Chermiti.

Francis Okoronkwo, their top scorer for the under-21 team, deserves a shot. Dyche would undoubtedly choose the 19-year-old as a wildcard, but considering their recent performance, it’s definitely worth a shot.

Since moving to Merseyside, Okoronkwo, who cost £1 million when he joined with the Toffees in 2021, has scored 19 goals for the under-18 and under-21 teams.
