At the halfway point of the 2019–20 season, Alex Robertson, a central midfielder, made his debut for City’s under-18 team by scoring a hat-trick against the Sunderland under-18s.
After scoring 13 goals and dishing out five assists in 25 games for the under-18 team, he advanced to the under-23 team and joined players like Oscar Bobb.
Despite not having made his senior debut yet, Robertson scored seven goals and provided three assists while playing there last season. He was also given a spot on the city bench for three games.
However, he performed the same for Australia throughout the previous season and most recently played for 17 minutes against Argentina, the world champions.
Robertson was transferred on loan to Portsmouth by City this season, evidently pleased with the development he was making in their academy.
With the table-toppers, he has missed just one League One match. He has just twice been on the losing side and has scored once and assisted three times.
Given Robertson’s performance, Pompey must be pretty pleased.
All eyes are on Robertson for Everton.
He has the possibility of being picked up by another team, though, because of his strong performances. As per The News, Everton of the Premier League is reportedly keeping a close eye on him.
Said to “remain confident of keeping” Robertson at the team through the end of the season is Portsmouth, in any event.
According to reports, they are “retaining hope” of having the Australian international return for the following season.
Our midfielder is reportedly receiving “pleasure” from City regarding his exposure to senior football, and as a result, Pompey is optimistic he will be able to stay until the summer.
For January, there is a recall option available to the Citizens for Robertson.
The Everton hijack must be cleared by the city.
A Premier League team would undoubtedly be pleased to send him on loan, as they would be pleased that he is getting first-team experience and that he will undoubtedly experience a level that City hopes he can match with them.
There are a few things to be aware of, though. Firstly, the report does not specify whether Everton wants him on loan.
Without offering Robertson a second chance at the team, City is unlikely to want to move him.
He hasn’t played in the Premier League or even the Championship, so the Toffees may not be able to guarantee he’ll get enough minutes to advance if they decide to loan him out.
