Jenson Metcalfe is now set to join Barcelona after speaking with Xavi
With the Toffees’ victory over Brentford at home on Saturday, they were able to secure their spot in the Premier League and avoided relegation for the third consecutive season. Goodison Park will host Premier League games in their final campaign.
That was crucial not just for the club’s continued existence but also for the heritage of this magnificent ancient ground.
As of right now, only the hosts have something to gain from their trip to Luton Town on Friday night.
Considering that Sky Sports probably chose that specific match for TV due to the expected relegation consequences, it is absurd how little significance it now claims to have.
Everton vs Luton Town is a dead rubber for the visitors
Even though Sean Dyche has never really been one to change things up, the match gives a wonderful opportunity for experimentation given that it means little for the Toffees.
However, that transparency may make it easier for a young player to adjust to life in the Premier League when playing against a team that lets goals slip as easily as the Hatters do.
After all, Everton is currently far from needing to win this game.
Several players have the ability to be selected for the starting first team; Mackenzie Hunt and Lewis Warrington are two that immediately come to mind.
But Jenson Metcalfe is perhaps the most deserved of them all.
Sean Dyche could hand Jenson Metcalfe his Everton debut
Described as “an energetic and technically-proficient central-midfield player” on Everton’s official website, the 19-year-old midfielder has been a part of the team since he was five years old.
But even though he has advanced through the academy in recent years, an ACL injury sustained in 2022 severely hindered his development.
The club showed their faith in his talent and work ethic by offering him a new four-year contract while he was still rehabilitating, even though it was a devastating blow for the boyhood blue.
Naturally, he was overflowing with appreciation, and he might now be back with something to prove as Dyche looks to restock his team in anticipation of a season in which money is unlikely to be abundant once more.
The 52-year-old will want to rely on his youthful setup since Everton supporters adore academy success stories. It all makes great sense.
A steady presence in the middle for the U18s and U23s, he might replace someone like Abdoulaye Doucoure to free up James Garner to attack more.
Paradoxically, the 31-year-old, who he may replace on Friday, has previously expressed his support for the teenager, praising him on Instagram following his initial inclusion in the senior match-day squad back in December.
Metcalfe is making fantastic progress, and with an inspirational Idrissa Gana Gueye providing cover, the circumstances are ideal for this kind of start.
