According to Daniel Ricciardo, he didn’t anticipate returning to the group of people he refers to as the “Red Bull family” as quickly as he did.
Midway through the 2023 season, the Australian was called up to the Visa Cash App RB (formerly AlphaTauri) squad because Dutch rookie Nyck de Vries had been playing poorly.
It meant that Ricciardo, who had previously been let go by the McLaren team at the end of 2022, would be returning to a full-time racing position.
Despite being sidelined by an injury, Ricciardo’s comeback in the latter part of 2023 showed a lot of potential, which sparked speculation that he would take Sergio Perez’s spot in the Red Bull driver’s seat.
In a recent LinkedIn article, Ricciardo shared his thoughts about sitting it out in the early months of 2023.
“I enjoy being a member of the Red Bull Family, but I also know that sometimes they may throw you curveballs. That’s why I try to remind myself to be alert and prepared just in case,” the Australian said.
However, I didn’t anticipate it would arrive quite so quickly. I was thrilled to be back in the Red Bull family, and I didn’t want to pass up this opportunity because, in the end, this is where I want to be—back on the grid.
Thus, I kind of took all of that and said, “All right, this is it.” It brought back memories of my early work days, when Red Bull would kind of throw the kitchen sink at me.

Regarding the AlphaTauri team, which is situated in Faenza, Helmut Marko highlighted a strategic change from the team’s initial function as a development squad for rookie drivers. To become more competitive, the team plans to fortify its relationship with Red Bull.
Daniel Ricciardo’s hiring indicated a shift away from training only rookie drivers. Although it was criticized, the team’s winter relocation to England was a big step toward improving its partnership with Red Bull.
